Say hello to independent corner shop Kampus General Store

Kampus is fast becoming the new home for Manchester’s indie shops, bars and restaurants. And Kampus General Store is the latest to join us at our canal-side, city centre home.

This, for those that don’t know, will be one of Manchester’s best food indies. The team behind it are also behind the Ancoats General Store and Stretford Foodhall.  Kampus General Store will have a similar village market feel. It’ll stock the best artisan food and drink (think sustainable meat from MeatCo Manchester or award-winning Great North Pie Co.). And, alongside, you’ll find all the daily essentials you might need.

The store overlooks our new square. It’ll be big enough to showcase a changing roster of local butchers, greengrocers and fishmongers, gin makers, wine merchants and more. They’ll regularly pop-up for residencies that’ll feature tastings and workshops of locally-made food and drink.

Best of all is the store’s eco ethos. Its zero-waste, household essential refill hub means that whether you live at Kampus or are just passing through, you can ditch the single-use plastics. Come here to fill up your own containers with cereals, washing up liquid, lentils, sugar and pasta. Nice, eh?

A neighbourhood store

“We’re moving into a place with a strong sense of community and a very independent feel, which is exactly what we’re about,” says Mital Morar of Store Retail Group. “Kampus General Store will be right at the heart of the neighbourhood, where the convenience of a corner shop meets local artisan food and drink.”

“Kampus is fast becoming a neighbourhood in its own right and true to our word we’re sticking with independents,” says Capital & Centric’s Adam Higgins. “We turned down plenty of chain supermarkets as that identikit approach is not what our residents want. They’re after something more unique and interesting. So, there’ll be plenty of collabs and pop ups, giving local traders a chance to showcase their produce and residents a chance to try something new.”

Coming soon

Kampus General Store joins Common & Co’s pub and pizza shop, as well as the Bread Flower pop-up. It launches this autumn. Keep your eyes open for news, or sign up for our latest news and upcoming event announcements now.
